Venezia! Città dell'amore

Since we were only a short distance from Venice when we were in Acquileia at Dome and Anna's wedding we decided to stay in Venice for a night and the next day--then travel back to Bari that evening.  Jolayne and Dave stayed an extra day in Venice but it was so fun to have them with us in Venice.  We always imagined Venice as being a dirty city so we didn't have any desire to go there, but were we ever wrong! We were in awe of its beauty!  This is a city you must see if you are travelling to Italy!  Vecchio Venezia is so fun.  Filled with canals and gondolas with gondoliers with the traditional striped shirts.  We didn't ride in one because the cost was ridiculous (100 Euro) but we enjoyed watching them go by.  There are no vehicles allowed in Old Venice so we walked a lot along cobblestone streets and attempted to take it all in.  (Great shopping too, I might add). We had a wonderful dinner with 6 people that Dave had known from his residency in Connecticut that were there for the wedding.  We had a blast!  Here are a few of the things we saw...

The next 2 pictures are taken standing outside on our hotel room balcony----directly outside our window and one to the left showing shops..The shopping was fantastic and I didn't buy a thing!  Quite proud of myself...
