Wedding!

We were honored to be invited to a wedding about an hour outside of Venice in Acquileia.  When Jolayne and Dave were living in Connecticut, one of his fellow residents at school was Anna.  Her boyfriend of a few years was Domenico(Dome)  They got quite close to Anna and Dome--having them over many times for dinner and Dome would often be the chef cooking wonderful Italian dishes for them.  When Anna finished her residency, she moved to Chicago and so Dome stayed in Connecticut and often cooked for Jo and Dave. We got to know Dome quite well and LOVED his cooking!  Eventually they were reunited in Chicago and we got the happy news they were tying the knot!  She is from Acquileia and Dome is from Bologna.

The next day after the wedding, Dome and Anna showed us some of the sights of Acquileia.  We even climbed an antiquated stairway to the top of a bell tower. (Hundreds of steps it seemed!!--straight up)  This is the Basilica di Acquileia built in 4AD.

The mosaics covering almost the entire floor are the oldest preserved mosaics in the world.(4 AD)
